The Kachin National Organisation- UK staged a demonstration on 31 of July 2007 at12:00 to 13:00 in front of Burmese Embassy to protest against Burmese military’s Dam project on Irrawaddy confluence, the heart of Kachin state, in northern Burma. The military government is planning to build a huge Dam about one mile below Irrawaddy confluence with the help of a Chinese electrical company. It will produce more than 1000 of megawatt electrical power to sell to china. The Kachin people are concerned that the project would negatively impact on local communities near the Dam site in upper Burma and it can also cause huge floods in lower Burma. Additionally the dam will destroyed the heritage of Kachin culture.

On the day of the demonstration, as the regime is so afraid of people using their democratic rights that they closed the embassy for the period of the demonstration.
